Garden software PC & MAC find right plant right place

Early in the year is the best time to plan your garden for the year ahead and we have the garden advice to help you.

We’ve designed an interactive plant advice plant database to help you select the plants for every aspect of your garden.

Simply select the soil type and aspect i.e. full sun, partial / dappled shade, or full shade, then with a simple click on the search button the CD-Rom finds and displays the plants to suit your requirements. You can narrow down your search by selecting a flower and or leaf colour, height, Latin or common name.

The software was originally designed for the garden novice yet Garden Designers and Garden Design students have found it extremely useful in there work where the individual clients and gardens have their own special needs. The Interactive plant database saves time and effort searching through books or the internet.

Each plant has plant description and pruning advice. Complete Garden software. Plant description and plant care

The Complete Gardens software CD-ROM has been designed for the UK gardener in mind, though it has been found useful as far north as Norway as far south and New Zealand as far west as America and east as far as Russia.

Add your own records and print with images and make your own plant lists and print with images. Complete Gardens CD-ROM. Garden advice software add your notes and make plant lists

We have produced a streamable garden software version for people to try if they live out side of the UK or prefer this to buying a CD-ROM

The Complete Gardens CD-ROM is both PC & MAC compatible containing 3,500 UK plants with 9,000 photographs.

Amazon are doing a special discount rate so we suggest that if you’re looking for a bargain them please have a look at Beware of other third party sellers other than Complete Gardens as I can’t guarentee if they are genuine suppliers. If Amazon run out of stock as they do on numerous occasions then please see Complete Gardens as a stockist though Amazon charge £3.50 for p&p but the Complete Gardens web site is inclusive of p&p.

The streamable garden software is only available on the Complete Gardens web site.

We have also developed the software to work on a hand held unit such as a Blackberry. Again this portable garden software is only available via the Complete Gardens website – software.

We hope you find the interactive plant finder, garden advice software useful and will help you create a beautiful garden design of your dreams.

There is a free help line see web site

Garden design

Your garden is a growing investmentEnglish cottage garden style plants

Gardening is an enjoyable hobby that can keep you fit, be creative, rewarding and can even make you money by adding value to your property. You don’t have to be a Garden Designer to create an attractive garden design.

What you need to know are a few basics and some gardening advice

* Which garden plants will suit your garden conditions?

* Which plant will grow in your soil?

* Which plants will grow in full sun, partial shade and full shade?

* When are the plants in flower or looking their best?

* How to look after them?

Planning and designing a garden with seasonal colour, texture and interest is the fun, creative part and you can pay Garden Designers a lot of money for their garden advice. However, finding out which plants will suit your garden is available in books and magazines, although this can be quite time-consuming and laborious.

Alternatively, if you have a computer, save time and effort by using an interactive garden plant finder and pruning guide CD-ROM which selects from your choice of colour, month, season, aspect, soil type, height and plant name, then a simple click of the mouse displays the plants to suit your needs.

Only choose plants to suit your garden. If you have a small garden, select those plants that won’t out-grow your limited space. If you want a low maintenance garden select plants that don’t need a lot of pruning or feeding.

There are about 73,000 plants to choose from so there is no end to the fun you can have creating the garden design of your dreams. It’s quite a good idea to start your design by selecting plants to give your garden some structure.

Shrubs are good plants for this and come in a multitude of colours, shapes and sizes. Check the height and spread of the shrubs before planting so that you don’t position them too close together.

Climbers will add height and colour to your garden. You can select climbers that will flower early in the season and then select others to flower later in the year and maybe select some to have attractive autumn foliage.

Annuals will grow and flower in the same year and provide almost instant colour whilst the plants in your borders have time to grow and mature. Annuals can be bought as seedlings or easily grown from seed.

Grasses provide texture and movement in a garden and most can be cut back to ground level the following spring.

Don’t only choose a garden plant because it has an attractive flower. There are fabulous foliage plants to consider like ferns and hostas that love the shade areas of your garden and will reward you with luscious colour and texture.

A garden doesn’t just have to look attractive in the summer months. It is important to select plants for spring, summer autumn and winter.

You will be surprised at how many plants there are that have attractive flowers, berries and bark to liven up any cold grey winter days.

Pruning is important as it keeps the plants in shape and encourages healthy new growth. Each plant on the CD-ROM has illustrated pruning advice and has a unique calendar plant list which reminds you not only the plants you have, but also when and how to prune your plants. Books can’t do this.

Propagation is very rewarding and satisfying because not only are you creating new plants but you’re also saving money.

Gardening can help you keep fit. Any gardener will tell you that digging and weeding provide a very good work-out.

An attractive garden is one to enjoy and is a growing investment because according to the Estate Agent Society, attractive gardens can add 20% to the value of a property.

How to sell a garden advice CD-ROM that not many people know about?

January 21, 2008
I’ve discovered that making my interactive garden plant finder and pruning guide is only half the job, marketing and selling it is the other half.
My skills are wildlife filming and photography. I’m not a garden expert so sought the advice of freelance Authors like Paul Williams to write about plants for the interactive plant advice project.
Selling is not my forte yet it’s a vital skill if one expects to make any money. I take my hat off to sales people.
My dilemma is promoting a garden advice CD-ROM that not many people know about, plus competing with cheaper imported garden software which is not very relevant to the UK gardener or climate and therefore not much practical use here in the UK. Some competitors have even gone to the trouble of disguising their origin by using garden personalities on the cover to make out they were involved when in fact they weren’t.
To raise my profile I’ve exhibited at the Chelsea Garden Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show and made good sales. This is because I can demonstrate to people how the interactive CD-ROM finds plants for every aspect of a garden and season. The potential buyer can see how easy the software is to use and the plant advice plus images that accompanying each plant.
Encouragingly, Garden Designers have said they wished they had had this CD-ROM when they were doing their design course”

Inspired by these and other positive comments, our team have added and improved the plant database, search functions and usability. As many garden Designers use MACs we’ve made a PC & MAC version. We’re the only MAC & PC compatible garden software CD-ROM on the market.

To sell on Amazon you have to go through a Distributor but this can be a frustrating. Every Christmas they run out of stock! yet the cheaper imported software were always available. Larger companies with a wider range of products will naturally be looked after first. There’s not much one can do about that.
I’ve exhibited at Trade Shows like Glee where we were awarded Best New Product for “Home & Gift”
Trade shows are an excellent way to meet buyers. They come to you to ask questions about your products rather than you making endless phone calls which I’m uncomfortable doing.
Getting an endorsement:
Chris Beardshaw liked the CD-ROM and has given an endorsement “This CD-ROM is the next best thing to having your own personal gardener”  This is praise indeed from such a respected Chelsea Gold winning garden designer and TV personality. I image that Chris will be the perfect solution to create a beautiful garden but if he’s not available then the CD-ROM is there to help advise finding the right plants for the right place to suit your garden and colour scheme you require.
I’ve teamed up with Monro Brands who will distribute the CD-ROMs to Garden Centres around the country. Monro are a well respected Company in the garden industry. We have produced a demonstration DVD and an attractive display case which can be placed close to the cash desk.
We made the demo DVD because the CD-ROM can’t be opened like a book can.  With luck customers will understand from watching the demo how useful the CD-ROM is and want to purchase it as a gift for friends or a present for themselves.
Rather than relying on Amazon or Ebay I’m trying to raise the profile of my website and make this my online shop. It will be more efficient, a safe and secure method of payment for the customers plus the goods are posted out on the same day by first class post. There is no postage charge to UK and N. Ireland customers

Gardening is a growing investment

December 31, 2007

Gardening is a growing investmentIt is vital to select the right plants that will suit your garden soil.

Unsuitable plants will not thrive and could die, leaving you disappointed and a waste your money.

It is important to choose the right plants for the different aspects of your garden like areas that are in full sun, partial shade or full shade.

If you put a shade loving plant in full sun the leaves will shrivel up and the plant will eventually die. The same goes for sun loving plants, if you put a sun loving plant in shade it will either not flower at all or produce weak blossoms, the leaves won’t get sufficient light and the plant will become weak and also eventually die.

Some plants thrive in damp soils whereas others prefer well drained soil. It is therefore important to choose the right plants for the right place.

It is understandable that to some people find gardening daunting especially with the long Latin plant names.

To make things simple I’ve gathered together a talented team of authors and programmer to produce an interactive plant advice CD-ROM to help you find the right plants for your garden.

No longer do you need to spend hundreds of pounds on garden experts to suggest what you need to grow or waste money by buying unsuitable plants.

The interactive software allows you to select any combination of colour, soil type, aspect, month of interest, height and Latin or common name.

Within seconds the CD-ROM selects and displays the best plants to suit your needs and garden conditions.

It’s very easy to use regardless of your level of computer or gardening experience. Just move the mouse and click. It really can’t be quicker or simpler.

So for example you can select plants for spring by selecting either a month or several months Feb and March. Then select a flower and or leaf colour by clicking any colour on the colour bar i.e Pink.

The CD-ROM selects and displays all the Pink flowering plants in February and March.

To be more precise you can select Clay soil, Moist, Partial Shade, grows to a height of 1m, with red flowers in June. The CD displays plants to suit your needs within seconds.

With this basic information you are able to plan and design a beautiful garden using the right plants in the right place with the choice of colour and the height you require.

In addition to this each plant is accompanied with in-depth planting advice and the Latin names are explained in Layman’s terms.

You are able to make visual lists of ‘plants I have’ and ‘plants I want’

The plant lists are linked to the Calendar which reminds you what you have in any month and when and how to prune your plants so they cared for correctly and produce healthy new growth with fabulous flowers and healthy foliage.

With the visual garden planner you can start to choose plants and create continuous colour and interest and well as combination planting using foliage plants for texture combined with flowering plants and shrubs.

We have added garden styles designed to give you some inspiration with the plants listed. It’s possible to print the lists and take these with you to the Garden Centre.

Each plant is accompanied with stunning images to help identification and seasonal changes plus Pests and Diseases and Propagation advice.

With the CD-ROM you can find plants for the front to the back of the border and from spring through to winter.

So gardening doesn’t have to be daunting with easily accessible gardening advice from our Head Gardener on CD-ROM.

The Complete Gardens CD-ROM is the only Mac compatible software on the market. Compatible with OS X, Panther and Leopard

Compatible with PC Windows 2000, XP, Vista

It is important to check out garden software before you buy. Many are cheap imports from abroad. The glossy covers boast having thousands of plants yet many won’t be relevant for the UK gardener and the image quality if very poor and many plants won’t have images. One even has the much loved Geoff Hamilton on the cover yet he died in 1996 and had nothing to do with their software.

Streaming Garden advice

December 5, 2007

I am delighted that our STREAMING software option is proving a big success in North America. In less than three month a third of our sales are now generated using this streaming method. I think our customers realise, not only can the plant data be used on PC’s using XP anywhere, anytime, by streaming it, they have the additional benefit of costing less than a conventional CD-ROM with it’s postal charges and associated carbon costs – which is high on most peoples lists right now.

One major advantage for our potential customers is the option to trial the software to satisfy themselves of the content. 95% of customers have then gone on sign up to the 12 month licence.

We do not purport that this British made software will suit every temperature zone around the World so giving a trial option allows anyone to test the full 2,700 plant version with 7,200 high quality images for 24hrs to satisfy themselves that the plant data and contents suits their needs.
It was very encouraging to see that the majority of the plants used in the  Chelsea Garden Flower Show gardens are included on our latest plant database with images and plant care & pruning advice.
Gardening is to be enjoyed whatever the level of experience and age. Our  streamable PC  garden software is really user-friendly and will provide the information required to inspire people to make their own colourful and interesting Garden of Eden and have a lot of fun along the way.
